What Makes a Beautiful Wedding Photograph?

For me, beautiful wedding photography isn't about creating a collection of perfectly posed photographs. It’s about the feeling. The way you look at each other when nobody else is watching. The movement of your dress as you walk. The warmth of the light coming through a window. The little details you spent months choosing. The laughter, the excitement and all of those fleeting moments that make your wedding day yours. When I think about the kind of wedding photographs I want to create, there are a few things that always come to mind.

Emotion over perfectionI want your photographs to feel like you. Of course, there will be beautiful portraits of the two of you, but I don't believe every photograph needs to feel perfectly posed or overly directed. Some of my favourite images are the ones where something real happens in between the photographs, a laugh, a little glance, the way you naturally hold each other. Those moments don't need to be perfect. They just need to be yours.Beautiful, natural light

Light is one of the biggest things I look for when creating an image.Soft window light while you're getting ready. Gentle evening sunlight. The glow of candles as the day moves into the evening. Beautiful light can completely change the feeling of a photograph, and I love using it to create images that feel soft, romantic and timeless. I'm always looking at where the light is falling, how it's changing throughout the day and how I can use it to tell part of your story.

Movement

I love photographs that feel alive. A veil catching in the breeze. Your dress moving as you walk. The two of you dancing together. Wind in your hair. A little spin, a laugh, a moment where you forget you're being photographed. Movement brings so much feeling into an image. It also means you don't need to spend your wedding day standing still and wondering what you're supposed to do with your hands. I'll give you gentle direction when you need it, but I want your photographs to feel natural rather than forced.

The little details

There is so much thought that goes into a wedding. The invitations you chose, the flowers, your perfume, your shoes, the rings, the little details on the table, all of those things become part of the story. I love photographing these details alongside the bigger moments because, years from now, they can bring back memories you might otherwise have forgotten.Your wedding photographs aren't just about what happened. They're about how the day looked and felt.

Connection

At the heart of everything is connection. I'm drawn to the quiet moments between people just as much as the big celebrations. The way you hold hands. A forehead resting against a shoulder. A look across the room. Your friends laughing together. Your family gathering around you. These are the photographs that tell the story of the people who made your wedding day special. And when it comes to photographing the two of you, I don't expect you to know how to pose. You don't need to be naturally confident in front of a camera. You don't need to know what to do. I'll guide you when you need it and give you space when a moment happens naturally.

A little bit of editorial

I love photographs that have a slightly editorial feel to them, considered composition, beautiful surroundings, fashion and details but I never want that to come at the expense of something feeling real. For me, the most beautiful wedding photographs are where those two things meet. Something that looks beautiful, but still feels like you. A photograph that you could imagine framed on your wall, but that also takes you straight back to how you felt in that moment. Photographs that feel like you. Ultimately, I don't want you to look back at your wedding photographs and feel like you've been turned into someone else. I want you to see yourselves. The way you laughed together. The way you looked at each other. The people you love. The little details you chose. The atmosphere of the day. Your wedding doesn't need to look like anyone else's, and your photographs shouldn't either. The images throughout this journal were created during styled shoots, which have given me the opportunity to explore and develop the visual style I want to bring to wedding photography. While they aren't real wedding moments, they are a true reflection of the way I see light, movement, connection and detail, and the kind of imagery I love to create.
