Why I Offer 35mm Film Photography as Part of My Wedding Packages

Digital photography is brilliant. I can capture pretty much anything happening throughout your wedding day. But there's something about 35mm film that I absolutely love.

It gives your wedding gallery something completely different. I first fell in love with film photography in college and then I specialised in it during my final uni degree project. Being the only one who was using the darkroom made me realise how important this craft is.

So, why offer film photography as part of my wedding packages?

It has a look of its own

Film has a certain softness and character that you just don't get in exactly the same way with digital.  The colours, grain, highlights and little imperfections all come together to create images that feel a bit more timeless. And no, I don't mean everything will suddenly look like it's been taken in 1974. It's more subtle than that.Think beautiful creamy skin tones, soft highlights and that lovely bit of film grain that makes an image feel tangible.

It makes you slow down

With digital, you can take hundreds of photos during your wedding day.  Film is different. You've got a limited number of frames, so every shot counts. That means I'm looking for the right moment rather than firing off loads of images and hoping something sticks. Sometimes that slower approach creates some of my favourite shots.

It adds another layer to your gallery

Your main wedding coverage will still be captured digitally. Film isn't replacing that. It's an extra. Alongside all the important family photos, candid moments, portraits and dance floor chaos, you'll get a selection of 35mm film images mixed into your final gallery. It gives you another perspective on the day. Those little frames of a blurred dance floor, your parent crying, friends toasting to you, can all be absolute gems.

Film isn't supposed to be perfect

And that's exactly why I like it. Film can have grain. It can have little imperfections. Sometimes the exposure isn't exactly what I expected. Sometimes the frame is slightly wonky. And honestly?

I think that's part of the charm.
Your wedding isn't meant to look like a perfectly polished editorial from beginning to end. It's your actual day, with all the weird, funny and completely unplanned bits that come with it.

Is 35mm film right for you?

You don't need to know anything about film to have it included. You don't need to pose differently. You don't need to do anything at all. I'll simply bring my film cameras along and use it throughout the day when the right opportunities come up. If you love candid images, nostalgic colours and photographs that have a little bit of character, you might absolutely love having film as part of your package.
